When I start the engine everything is fine but when I increase the throttle a noise comes from clutch side cover area. In gear or neutral. sound increases with more throttle. any help?
Without hearing your noise first hand it's hard to diagnose. Could be your clutch lifter spring or detent. In either case you probably can't fix it without taking the cover off. How much play do you have on the clutch cable?
Still trying to define location. No difference in sound when clutch is engaged or not. Do not think in transmission . I did install a big bore kit. So new pistons, rings, pins, cylinder walls. Thanks for trying to help.Lz.
IF the engine is performing like it's supposed to you can run to failure (a favorite of most engineers) or you can tear the engine down and see if it's a mechanical fault. Either way the problem eventually surfaces if it's a real problem.
With a big bore kit the air intake was increased significantly, so it could be the snorkels to the airbox (if installed).
Many years ago I replaced the airbox and plumbing on my Rocket III with pod filters. When I took it for a ride there was mechanical chirping and clattering I hadn't heard before. Upon investigation it turned out to be valve clattering that had been masked by the airbox snorkel to throttle body piping. I was getting the noise unfiltered from the valves opening and closing thru the pod filters. I had 'released the crickets.'
I hear you. I believe the noise is coming from the valves. I did away with the air box and just running K&N filters. This whole bike I got in a basket so I had to buy several parts. I did not check the valve clearance when I put together. My bad. That is what I am going to do now. Thanks alot for your help. Lz.
If it is the valve train then it's not a problem. Checking the clearance is a good idea. On shim and bucket OHC engines the gaps tend to close as valve seats wear so hearing a 'clickety-clack' is usually a good sign (indictes a gap is present lobe to shim).
