I got round to spraying my chrome headlights satin black eventually.
I took dragline708's advice and used expoxy primer - seems to work like a treat. Plus I can go back to the chrome should I knock my head and lose common sense.
The primer I used was Plascon Automotive APU 106 with a catalyst.
Here's a pdf for those paint techies...

First of, the 'before' pic - taken a while back last summer:
I removed the headlights, the wiring was a little tricky but it can be done without chopping any wires. All I did to pre clean the headlight buckets was to wipe them down with alcohol swabs, then a final wash with benzine.
Angie without any eyes.. ooooooooooooooh nooooooooooooooo....![Crying  ](https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f622.png)
Mixed up the epoxy primer, you have to work pretty quick coz the pot life is less than what the spec sheet says - probably from the heat.
It's a horrible beige colour and it doesn't dry 100% flat, they recommend to scotch brite it back to flat. Easy enough when it's dried.
I gave it 24 hours to dry, flattened it, rewashed in benzine and put on a heavy~ish coat of the satin black.
I let that dry for another 24 hours, flattened that too, washed and applied a final top coat of black again.
Waited another 24 hours, them re-mounted them. They've yet to get a polish - I normally wait for two weeks before applying any kind of polish or wax.
The final look:
I'm very happy with the results. I left the front most rings chrome, as they get battered by stones and bugs and it's hardier than any paint could be.
How does it look?
