Hi guys, my speedy didn't start the other day and when I manage to bring it to the local dealer, I've been told that I had to replace the starter clutch but that because Triumph doesn't sell the part anymore individually I had to buy the all kit for over £450.00! This is without labour and VAT.... When the individual part use to cost around £180.00.
Any idea?? Can I fit the part T1221111(I found this online) in to the 2007 kit or this is the new part already?
Thanks....
I hope I can get it sorted ASAP....

Kevin (Otherwise) can probably best answer your question.

Not certain on the 2007 Speed3 but I did do a starter (sprag) clutch replacement on a 98 Sprint. That required entire engine removal and cases split! But I understand the newer models its a simple proceedure that should be easily managable. Sprag clutch aqssembly is listed on bikebandit.com for $240.00. Seems a decent afternoon project.

Thanks, they say it is 1.5hr job, but the problem is the part.
In the triumph dealer they told me that the part itself is not in sale anymore and that triumph did a all new kit and that I have to replace the all lot and not just the single part. That's why its so expensive. On the other hand, other say that the part that you mention, (I think it's listed as T1221111) is ok for my kit and I don't know what to get anymore.
The excuse that triumph used is that the old one was to weak and that the new kit is much better but they don't leave you the choice anymore or they just hiding behind this excuse to get you to spend so much money for an apparently very common issue with the speed3.

They told me the same thing about the sprag clutch on my 98. The "original" was "weak" and the new was stronger.
I purchased the part for my 98 from Bikebandit.com. You can order the whole kit from them or the individual parts it looks like, however I would give them a call to verify availability.
I followed a how to thread on another forum when I did mine. It is a common issue with Triumph triples---the "sprag" clutch that is. 1 way (they say) to keep it from happening is to ALWAYS start the bike in neutral. I had no issues on my 2000 Speed 3 or my 2005 Tiger so far........always start clutch in and in neutral.

I will look for the link and forward if I can find it this evening.

The sprag on the 98 was easy......once I got the engine apart to do it:y2: I would say yes, on the newer about a 1.5 hour job sounds about right.

Not yet.... I bought a part but I will let you know when it arrived!
I will keep you updated for now I'm just waiting....
