O.K. I took my 99 Tbird out for the first ride since getting it . I think maybe the PO may have done something to the baffles, cause it sounds pretty loud to me for stock exhaust. The idle seems quite enough but she starts barking pretty good at steady throttle . Normally I wouldnt care too much but to my ear it kinda sounds like crap. I currently have an 02 Guzzi with stock pipes that's too quite, a Victory with Cobra pipes thats just right and an 18 Concours with Two Brothers can that sounds right. I had a Benelli 900 triple that sounded much better with stock pipes. Its just too high pitched, kinda like a pop, pop, pop instead of a bum, bum, bum. My wife thinks it sounds bad too and she loves the Ducati and the Griso I had. My opinion but it sounds as tho a rookie rider had it that just wanted loud, not good. I dont mean to upset anyone here, just want to see where I stand with my bike. I don't wanna a buy stock muffler then find out it's the same. Thanks!

What kind of exhaust are they, the Cones or the TORs?

Basically the TORs look like a torpedo and the Cones, well you get the idea.
It's the stock pea shooter. I'm thinking maybe the exhaust wrapping may be gone inside. I listened to some you tube vids, mine is not nearly as throaty sounding as the ones on there. I dont know if I can do anything about re-wrapping the baffles.

I've got a 2000 Legend TT 900, that originally came with Pea shooters as well.

The exhaust was actually quite loud, sounded like a damn choppy, flatulence addled, lawnmower. I eventually switched to Dunnies/Reverse cones from Dime City Cycles and now it has a nice growl to it, along with the standard Hinkley Triple staggered, choppy rumble. It's not too loud, and the sound regularly catches the attention/appreciation of other riders.

Perhaps you could upload a video of it at idle, as well as a clip of you running around the block. This way myself or someone else can give you an idea if you're well out of the standard range

Do those mufflers from Dime City bolt right up?

Are your mufflers/silencers the OEM "sausage" style? Take a good look at the part number stamped on the underside. The stock number is something like "1550" The optional Triumph "off road" mufflers/silencers (referred to as "TORs") will have a statement to the effect of "NOT LEGAL FOR HIGHWAY USE" stamped on them. The TORs are "unobtainable!", cost $$$$$$ when new and worth a bundle - I looked for set for years- found some in Ohio. Owners used to take long drills and ream out the insides of the OEM ones or hammer long rods through 'em to make 'em loud. The TORs are rather loud and raspy and the baffles inside seem to be made of some sort of composite material that crumbles. To remedy this, I have spent hours pushing fiberglass strands inside through the mounting holes- lasts about 3/4 of a riding season- I like the way it sounds and no "popping" on the over-run. (When it starts doing that, it's time to re-pack the 'glass)
All that said, the OEM "stock" mufflers are just about right if you don't like "loud" but finding a nice set of OEMs is NOT going to be cheap and NOBODY makes replacements save for Norman Hyde and maybe Sprint Mfg and Hyde gets 400 UK Pounds plus shipping for them (just looked up price and I think actually reduced from a year or so ago!)
Also, do you still have the "honeycomb" cats in the pipes, just before the mufflers?
