The first time I saw the 2016 Thruxton's was at the Triumph tent last fall at the Barber motorsports vintage days event. I liked the bike so much that I spent at least 3 hours hanging around and asking questions and generally making a pest of myself. I ordered a silver Thruxton R in late December of 2016 without any test ride and took delivery in mid January this year.
I really like this bike. Very solid handling on the backroads I usually ride with terrific brakes. The midrange torque is very strong and useful exiting corners. The motor's power band is relatively flat with strong torque everywhere. There is no top end hit or rush the way triumph tuned this motor so there is no advantage pushing the bike to the rev limiter at 7,200 RPM's. I only have 1200 miles on the bike due to other priorities this year but so far I have nothing but pluses to say about it. My Thruxton R always draws a crowd at local bike events with lots of favorable comments about it and questions about it's performance.
Plans for this year are centered around getting more reliable performance out of the bike.
