Seeing a total solar eclipse was one of my bucket list items. Since the next total eclipse in my part of the world is in 2046, I thought I would better see this one.

The closest point on the path of total eclipse was in Arkansas. That eclipse path was following I-30 like it was glued to it. I chose to go Arkadelphia, AR because the weather forecast was favorable.

I looked for a park that had open views of the sky and restrooms! The City of Arkadelphia has a park on both sides of the Ouachita River. The two parts are connected by the old AR State Road 8 bridge which us now a pedestrian only bridge. It was a beautiful place to view the total solar eclipse.

Another highlight of my trip and the reason I caged instead of riding is that I met in person a long time internet friend with whom I communicated for over 25 years. I took her some things of Ilse's that wouldn't fit on the bike. It was great to meet her in person. She is an 84 year old widow who is still spry, drives, and does her own yard work and gardening.

I drove a total of 3231 miles, 5200 km.

My photos of the eclipse didn't turn out very well I didn't know how to set the speed for less light. There are plenty of eclipse photos online. I stole, er, borrowed the one below. It is exactly what I saw.

Your pictures are great TUP
The eclipse passed just to the north of me and was only a partial event.
The skies dimmed a bit in the late afternoon but really didn't amount to anything.
One of our national news channels followed the event so I saw much of it, on and off, on TV.

I watched it live on TV and it must have been something to see in person. Looks like you found the ideal spot to watch it as that park looks like a stunning location.
It was positively awesome in person. At the full eclipse, I was able to take off the glasses and view it directly. The park was a beautiful location. There were less than a hundred folks there, so it was not crowded at all.

Thank you, Rocky. It got pretty dark at total eclipse. The street lights came on. What surprised me was the six degree drop in temperature.
