Well it seems a lot better today sort of back to normal. Here is the reply I got from our host. I have now asked them what we can expect out of this as it seems a bit open ended

Thanks a ton for this data. This is excellent, and leads us in the following direction:

It looks as though you are experiencing a database interruption of service. One of your users commented:

"Once I enter my user name and password, I click the login button and it logs me in OK but it always says there's been an error trying to get to my unread posts. It never did that before." That is a direct query against the database. The other problems such as site being slow, or not responsive at all, can also be attributed to the database...

I set up a simple performance tester for your web site where I just looped over iterations of the home page and I could not reproduce and significant load, nor create any meaningful errors, simulating a 20 user concurrent load.

Couple with this the fact that globally (using website "InternetSupervision.com") I am seeing an average page load time of < 2sec for the main page.

With this, I believe that you are seeing an intermittent effect of the combined use of a shared server. I have made some notes to pass on to the server management team on your behalf, and asked them to look into this. I am seeing some slowness when I open images for the first time, but I cannot capture any meaningful CPU use nor database traffic, it appears to be simply data transfer.

Here is the reply I got from them on my follow up to the above

Hello,

I have optimized the database tables for you at this time. This should relive some of the time that it take to query the databases. If the error continues you may need to move to a vps or higher server as we cannot remove the mysql kill script from the server. As this would cause high load on the server and cause mysql to fail. Causing data corruption on all accounts.

I understand the first reply; but I do not understand the second reply. Is the second one telling us to live with what we've got or find another host? The site is running fine this morning.

On top of our site being slow, yesterday Century Link (my ISP) lost their main server in Florida. This overwhelmed the backup server resulting in intermittent loss of connection for their customers (me). They seem to have gotten the server back up around 8:30 PM (20:30) and it seems fine this morning. I was in the middle of reconfiguring my LAN when that happened. It took me 2.5 hours to straighten out the mess the loss of connection created. I had to completely delete my internet connections and recreate from scratch - while waiting for my router to connect to the internet. Frustrating; but I am up and running.

It was me that mentioned the error.

But I've been getting that error now for about a Month and it didn't correspond at all with the timing of the site slowing down.

It also seems like I am the only one getting that error.

After logging in, I used to be taken to the same index page as where I logged in, the only exception being that the login fields were replaced with my profile stuff (showing I was logged in). It never tried to show me my unread posts after my login before the error began happening.

I also agree with Carl.....the site is now running GREAT!

I can't agree with them that the problem was anything to do with the website itself or the database.

My default home page is Google. So if I was on Google (which loaded immediately for me) and I clicked the Bookmark for TriumpTalk, my computer would just sit there trying to access TriumphTalk. Sometimes it would time-out just waiting for a response or TriumphTalk would eventually start to load, but very slowly.

So just GETTING to the site was even a problem or was extremely slow. That can't be a database problem.
