Shaken, Not Stirred: Custom Triumph 1200XE Scrambler
“Martющa” from Tamarit Motorcycles…
In the last decade or so, we’ve seen a resurgence of production scramblers from the major manufacturers. At first, most of these bikes were little more than roadsters dressed up with a few nods to the scramblers of yesteryear: bash guards, high exhausts, enduro bars, and other such accoutrements. They looked great, but off-roaders they were not.
That changed with the arrival of the Triumph Scrambler 1200XE in 2019. Here was a 90-hp Trumpet with nearly 10 inches (250mm) of suspension travel and real off-road chops. Sure, it still weighed 450 pounds, but the old BSA and Honda scramblers weighed nearly that much, and they had only a fraction of the horsepower, ground clearance, and suspension travel. While it’s no dirt bike, the Scrambler 1200 is certainly a simpler, lighter, more retro alternative to the big adventure bikes:
The Scrambler 1200 has also proven to be a great platform for customization. And when it comes to the transformation of modern Triumphs, no one does it more than Tamarit Motorcycles of Spain.
The bike you see here is #155 of their builds, and it’s part of their Signature Series — one of 35 bespoke customs they produce per year, each tailored to an individual rider, their riding style, and their country of residence. This Scrambler 1200 was built for Martin aka “Martющa,” a German expatriate who lives in the coastal city of Marbella, Spain.
The way it works is that Tamarit prepares a proposal and price quote for a client based on their needs and wants for the build. They charge for the proposal, as it requires about a dozen hours of work, and not everyone follows through with the project. If the customer greenlights the project, the proposal price is deducted from the total price of the bike.
It’s a solid process that keeps them from wasting their time preparing quotes for tire-kickers, and serves as some consolation for the disappointment of spending so much time designing a machine they want to build if the customer backs out. Fortunately, “Martющa” (Marty) loved the design and pulled the trigger, so #155 would be translated from a sketch into steel, brass, and brushed aluminum reality. The team was going for a classy, timeless aesthetic with this one, and they nailed it.
A 2:1 high-mount exhaust system was hand-crafted for the build, complete with custom heat shields to protect the rider’s thigh and brass details on the pipes themselves.
The camel-colored seat is another standout element of the build, featuring separate pillions for the passenger and rider. The front portion is mounted on its own steel plate, while the back portion is mounted directly on the rear fender.
The color scheme was addressed with extra care: stone blue, lots of chrome and brass, and our favorite, the use of gold leaf for lettering and striping the side covers and other bodywork.
It makes for an elegant combination, especially when combined with the chrome plating of the triple clamps, shock absorbers, swingarm, sprocket cover, engine cases, and more.
Other highlights include Tamarit’s in-house Patagonia bash plate and Sahara fender, a radiator guard, custom fork protectors, headlight grille, and full technical inspection (ITV) approval.
While this Scrambler might be a little too nice now for serious off-roading, it would be right at home with Agent 007 riding it to a black-tie affair in Marbella…and then chasing baddies around town, jumping curbs, barreling down staircases, and ripping along the waterfront. Sounds like our kind of fun!

“Martющa” from Tamarit Motorcycles…
In the last decade or so, we’ve seen a resurgence of production scramblers from the major manufacturers. At first, most of these bikes were little more than roadsters dressed up with a few nods to the scramblers of yesteryear: bash guards, high exhausts, enduro bars, and other such accoutrements. That changed with the arrival of the Triumph Scrambler 1200XE in 2019. Here was a 90-hp Trumpet with nearly 10 inches (250mm) of suspension travel and real off-road chops.
