My scrambler was doing 44 mpg on its first run out from new which increased to 54 mpg and today it went to 61mpg on occasion but was mostly around 58 mpg , I am still running the bike and I am upto 378 miles, it’s not been a bad bike to run in as at 4000 rpm it will do 70-75 and now I can go upto 5000 rpm which is quick enough on the shitty wet muddy roads in Yorkshire England.

I am approaching 5000 miles on my XC and average 48mpg overall. That said, I am a bit heavy on the throttle, live in a mountainous area; and I am a bit of a freak at 6' tall 240 pounds with only a 31 inch inseam and very broad shoulders so my torso is like a big freak sail up high catching the wind. A person of normal proportions who is lighter on the throttle living in a flatter area is likely to do much better in terms of gas mileage.

I don’t suppose 48 mpg is that bad considering it’s a 1200 and your heavy on the throttle, I think if you stick around 4-5000 rpm we’re most of the torque is you’ll get good mpg.
