Rusty Chain Roulette

Curious - can a rusty chain be cleaned / de-rusted / lubed, and still used, or is replacement the only option. I know, it depends on HOW rusted it is of course. Let's say light to mild. I do plan on replacing it, but for now, I need to get this bike to my new house - about a 180 mile (3 1/2hr ) trip. Pretty much 60mph the whole way. Think it could make it, or am I asking for disaster?

For that scenario, I would use a grunge brush (<---click here) with WD-40. It may or may not let you keep riding with the same chain after you get home, but it will get your bike home.

My ST stays in the parking lot 10 months of the year and when it sits in a rainy spell, it means the Kid's gotta spend an hour cleaning the chain and re-lubing (the chain) prior to a ride. It seems to rust up pretty easily.
