I put together my front system mod with the fairing and the new instrument panel, pretty pleased, but a curious question arose when I’ve looked at the cables for the throttle and the brake hydraulic hose. On the Thruxton the throttle cables go above on the top side of the lever of the hydraulic hose and on other models below. I’m wondering if it’s possible to route mine from the under side by rotating the cable housing? Thoughts?

As it is now throttle cables above the banyan bolt.

Under the hydraulic hose would gain me some space to lower the instrumentation panel.

Here’s an older picture, but it shows how the throttle cables go over the top. If the housing was rotated do the cables went under then that would gain be some ability to perhaps lower the panel and reduce the wiring harness distance to the headlight. If anyone has thoughts on if it can or cannot be done, I’d appreciate a comment. I’ve seen other mixers in the Bonneville family that has the cables going under and that’s what got me thinking.

Here’s what I’m thinking, the wiring diagram for the Thruxton and the Scrambler.

The Scrambler, note how it’s rotated and goes under the lever instead of over like on the Thruxton. Any explanation on why one was done one way or another? Is there a reason the Thruxton might not work in the same orientation? As y’all know I’m a bit of a novice mechanic when it comes to motorcycles, so input is appreciated. Thanks.

I’ve read through the manuals and haven’t found a reason why these are routed differently. Only thing they say is to route as shown. Not a big help. On other motorcycle guidelines it’s basically said they should be free to move and not bind.

At this point I have not found information in my manuals that say much about the throttle mechanism and how it installs. Trying to figure if it can be rotated about 90 degrees plus without effecting function.

I can't help. However, looking at the first diagram you've posted, I see some logic, I think, of coming from above; it allows a more gentle bend of the hoses Although in my eye, it's a bit tight/messy behind the clock.

The scrambler has higher bars, so looks like more opportunity for gentle bending of hoses.

If you do/can rotate, check it's nice and free on full lock both ways.

Thanks for that reminder. I’ll have to run the engine while turning to see if there’s any change in engine revolutions.
