Does anyone use a route tracking app? I'm looking for something that shows where I've been and hopefully others can log in and check where I am on a map. I don't want to subscribe to the SPOT system as it's a bit OTT for my needs.

Thanks, Antmakka

I can't help at all as I'm very new to this kind of technology.
I sure will be watching this thread as it sounds like an interesting idea.
If you watched my tracks over the last couple of mths you'd see a very dark spot not going more than about 5km from home, gotta do some thing about that.

You might try one of the free ones like. . .

It can share info with Facebook and Twitter. I don't know anything about it do I can't offer any thoughts on whether it works or not.

I use one on my Blackberry and when it works it is great as I can see what speed I was doing at any one time. However it does not always seem to see the phone and will not track it for long durations.

I may get another GPS Carl (my TomTom Rider just quit after years of sterling service) but I wanted an app to share my route with friends without having to take a laptop.
So after researching some apps here are my very humble opinions on them (so far)...

GPS Tracker - This works best for plotting your position each time you stop and any of your FB friends can click on the link to see where you are.
Google Latitude - I need to try this again as it wouldn't let me check-in without signing up for Google+, which I have no intention of doing.
Endomondo Sports Tracker - This one looks amazing. Displays a map with your route plotted every mile/km, and includes speed & altitude at each point as well as graphs of your overall route. Friends need to sign up if they want to monitor your progress but it's free.
Trails - Works similar to GPS Tracker but seemed to have more info on cycle routes in your area.
Abvio Cyclemeter - This doesn't have a free option so I haven't tried it yet.
EveryTrail - Had some problems trying to share to FB so will have to try again.
Maps 3D - Just downloaded this (thanks Hemibee) so will test it today (and it's snowing, that's how dedicated I am to this cause:y2:)

Quick update;

EveryTrail - Managed to share to FB but it required a few more steps than Endomondo Sports Tracker (EST), although the map goes straight to FB so no need for friends to log into a different site.
Maps 3D - Only allows a 10 minute route unless you upgrade to the paid version. As I'm a cheapskate this one is off my list :y2:

So on my next adventure I'll be using EST or EveryTrail so people can monitor my progress (bit more comparison testing required) and GPS Tracker to let them know where I'm staying, visiting, points of interest, etc. I'll be sure to post my results on this site.
