Folks,

I'm ready to pull the plug on ordering a Renntec Sports Rack and Grab Rail from the New Bonneville folks. (I exchanged several emails yesterday with Brent. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful about the fitment on the rack with my existing Bonnie saddlebags.)

I have no real preference either way on the chrome vs. the black. I'd be interested in hearing whether anyone has a preference based on the weather tolerance, resistance to abuse, possible flaking/chipping issues, or anything else you might think important for a newbie to know.

For instance, on my Honda VTX1300, the darn thing has so much chrome that it reflects into my eyes when I'm riding. It's annoying and borders on unsafe. So -- maybe that's a factor.

I'm also going to get a Renntec engine guard from NB, so I'll probably keep the colors all the same.

Your thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!

I like the black. I did my chrome years ago and I'm not looking to go back to chrome. Sorta like the saying, "Once you go black, you never go back."

No chrome here. . .

Even the rims are black.

Brent is a really good guy and I've done business with him several times.
Me, I like chrome and shiny, but this can be a hard choice and you only want to do this once.
That said, I have black Renntec bars on my Honda CB900F. Chrome would have looked too gaudy and out of place.
Since your engine is mainly black I think black bars would blend in better so you may as well go for the black rack too.
Renntec make a good product and the black items are powder coated and quite durable.

But in the end the choice is yours BGRIN

if frame is black, engine black, handlebars black, then yes, black all the way. it would probably look out of place in chrome.

Hemi, between your photo and Rocky & Drod's posts, I'm going with the black. Right now I have a mish-mash of chrome and black: the right brake pedal is shiny and some engine bits are, too! I don't have enough $$$ right now to retrofit what's already on the bike, but I just won't add to the shine.

I'm definitely getting the black luggage rack and crash bars!

Thanks, you guys rock!

Hey, MOT!

Chrome would look out of place with all the black bits on your bike. I can't wait to see a photo of your Bonnie. You'll have to think up a name for her.

I agree about the black/chrome! I just ordered the black engine guard and the luggage rack from New Bonneville.

And about the name -- I've already named him. Unless y'all tell me that everyone with a purple Bonnie names their bike this, I'm sticking with it.

His name is......wait for it....BARNEY.

However, my sister (who actually named my bike) says this one is more apropos:

Nancy you are going to have Barney trip worthy soon, he's looking good.
Triumph David, thank you, that's nice of you to say that!

I tried hard to talk myself into riding this afternoon (Thursday), but the outside air temp was about 38*F (about 3*C for our Canuck friends!) with all sorts of salt and sand still on the roads here in Northern VA. I only have about 20 minutes of time on him! Argh!!

So instead of riding on the lousy roads, I backed Barney out of the garage and fired him up in the driveway. Just sat in the saddle getting the feel of the bike. I restrained myself from making VROOM VROOM noises out loud. But I was secretly doing that in my head.

LMAO

I do the VROOM, VROOM out loud when I sit on Jessica, it helps keep my neighbors thinking I'm crazy. I wouldn't want them thinking they could come over and visit.
