That Army expert makes no sense. The Italian rifle is a good rifle, well engineered and and fairly well made. It is like the SKS - rugged and dependable. However it is a bolt action rifle, not a semi auto as is the M14. I am intimately familiar with both rifles and I can assure you that I would MUCH prefer an M14 - and you would, too. I would prefer an M1 Garand, except the Italian rifle is lighter than both the M1 and the M14. The bolt requires a decisive throw; It is not smooth like a Mauser action. Only by holding the stock under my arm, rapidly working the bolt and pulling the trigger could I get three shots off in the time Oswald did. I could get two deadly accurate shots off. I believe if I gun smithed the action and trigger pull, I could have improved it quite a bit. The rifle itself is a good weapon and accurate. It was just not designed for rapid fire. With a scope, it makes a fine brush hunting rifle.

Also you have to keep in mind that those who support the government story that Oswald acted alone look for any evidence and anyone that will support that story - just as the conspiratists look for anyone and and evidence that refute the government story. In short, I am a skeptic - and I darn sure don't trust nor believe the government. I don't know the real story and must likely never will. Don't you wonder why the Warren Report is sealed until the mid 21st Century? I know for a fact that what really happens and what the government releases to the public is many times not the same.

He was referring to it's accuracy and lethalness when he said it was as good of a rifle as a M-14.

The Carcano actually IS a Mauser just produced under license from the German Mauser company.

As for the "story"......

If the Dallas police and the district attorney there had gotten the chance to put Oswald on trial, there wouldn't be all those conspiracy theories. They had a completely open and shut case on Oswald. His handwriting on the order form for the rifle, his pictures with the rifle and the pistol used to kill officer Tippets, his finger prints on the boxes, shell casings, and the weapon, bullet fragments from the same in Kennedy's head and Connolly's body, eyewitnesses, etc. He also had the motive.

There has never been any credible evidence of any one else being involved.

I can assure you that it is not nearly as smooth as a German Mauser action. I knew it was made under license. I agree with the Army expert; it is accurate and lethal as are many, many rifles.
