Rain

We have had a bit of rain over the last few days so that was great. I am always careful about driving through water here when it does rain as you often find this type of situation and many people have had their cars ruined because of it

Even more so on the bike as this can cause a serious crash and injuries to any biker riding into one of these.

We don't get much flooding on our roads around here, but if I happen to be out and see big puddle, in a hollow for example, I slow way down.
Most of the time drivers just ram through it at high speed and I shake my head in dismay.
The rare times I'm out on the highway in heavy rain I'm also dismayed at the speeds some travel with no regard for possible hydroplaning.
I experienced hydroplaning once on only half worn tires and it felt like I hit a patch of ice. I was stunned because I wasn't going fast and there was lots of tread on the tires.
I didn't lose control, but the next day I had four new tires BGRIN

I is mind blowing how people ride when it rains, no thought to what could happen if they need to hit the brakes for any reason. I always drop way back from the car in front of me so the tailgater has plenty of time as I slowly slow down when I see the car in front stop or slow down.

Rocky, I had new tires and was driving a station wagon on a two lane road in the rain. The asphalt was rutted and the ruts were filled with water. I started hydroplaning and I could not steer out of the ruts. turned the steering wheel and kept on plowing straight ahead. I had to slow way down without braking to get out of the hydroplaning. That taught me a big lesson. That was in the 70's and I have never hydroplaned again!
