We are just coming out of major 1000 year rain event. We had a front stall over us for four days then come back as a warm front. We had four days of rain and then a full day and night of tropical deluge. The four days of rain had saturated the ground. Then Wednesday and Wednesday night, we hot 25.9 inches / 65.8 centimeters at the airport. I live 1.5 miles from the airport. This caused major flooding all around us. Today i was able to ride out of our neighborhood for the first time since Wednesday. The water had been up to the bumper of my Ford F450 4X4.

We were high and dry but surrounded by water.

Ft Lauderdale International Airport totally flooded

I remember when most of that whole S side of Lauderdale Int'l was a deactivated Naval Air Station. Old 2-story barracks from WW2 for the most part. IIRC some of it remained a "USN Surface Weapons Center" or something like that through the 80's. From the 90's on every time I passed by there more and more was demolished and replaced with basically what you see here.

The water has mostly receded. Some subdivisions are still wet, but we are okay. I can now come and go on my Bonnie. I still have to avoid some flooded roads.

A side effect of the flooding is gasoline shortages. Port Everglades, a busy port, is the primary petroleum products receiving port for all of southeast Florida. Nearly all of their pumps were under water which means gasoine couldn’t be pumped from the tankers. I think 7 of the 12 terminals are back in operation.

I remember that as well. It has definitely changed.

I've been keeping up with this devastating event via the news. Simply stunning - in a bad way FACE
I agree. It is unprecedented.

I have been watching the bad weather the US has been having and some of it is really scary and the destruction is devastating in some of the areas. We don't really have much protection when nature decides to go on the rampage by the looks of it.

No we don't and tornadoes give very little warning.
