I was surprised that there wasn’t an effort to setup a roadblock. Sounded like he had a police radio. The pursuit wasn’t perhaps the greatest demonstration of safety, but was also surprised that his department didn’t stand behind him.

Driving at speed between what looked like static homes, could have killed someone Had already lost the better riders, totally stupid. Refreshing a police department doesn't stand by an officer.

Can’t say I support chases for no reason or a not good enough reason. I got the idea a life threat was made and still wonder why there wasn’t an effort by the department to setup a road block of some sort. In any case seemed the chase should have been stopped much earlier. I would think he had a description and perhaps a license plate. I think a reprimand would have been sufficient, the court case I found excessive and found strange the department would bring one on a fellow officer. Of course I’m basing my thoughts on this never having occurred before.

That Aussie cop kept his cool despite the situation, I’ll give him that. Typical US cop would’ve been all spooled up and screaming his head off in a close pursuit like this. In fact, I’d give it easily 50-50 that an American cop would’ve smoked-checked them. US cops tend to be on the ego-driven side and once they’re committed they will usually stop at nothing.

This cat kept impressive, consistent SITREPs going, and did so pretty much calm as a coma. Dude knows his beat like the back of his hand. No real reason other units couldn’t converge on his location other than no one was available or they suck.

I've never run from cops but if I was going to I certainly have the bike to do it with. I get mean-mugged by cops fairly regularly when I'm out on my 1000. They take one look at that bike and they know what it is and they know what it can do. I wouldn't be surprsed if some PDs brief their people on the S1000RR's seeing how there's all kinds of onboard cam footage of them schooling cops out on the expressways. It's actually one of the most common bikes who's riders post footage of them ditching cops, that and Gixxers.

I've had cops follow me though, just to harass me. They'll flip a 180 and either get right behind me or try to act casual and hang 2 or 3 cars back. They don't do it on any of my other bikes. The 1000 is basically my track queen so I don't even take it out much. Never fails though. I'd say almost 50% of my rides some weenie cop will obsess over me being out there. And I have yet to even get a single ticket on any one of my bikes.

I'm firmly on the conservative side out on the roads but I'm not above giving it a bit of spurs now and again. Every once in a while someone will try me under the right circumstances and I'll proceed to spank him, usually kids in souped up Subarus or something like that. When I say "the right circumstances" I mean clear, uncongested stretches of road that allow me to open up and easily take a 1/4 mile without much weaving. I'm just too old to be out there pulling stunts that could put me in traction for 6 mos, or worse. I've taken plenty of chances back in the day. Time to relax.

I watch a lot of YouTube Videos on people running from the cops in the USA and it seems that it is a bit of a wast of time as they always seem to get them in the end. The one thing that I really don't understand is the way the cops in the US do it.

When you watch these videos you will have one vehicle running and at times not that fast and behind them you will have about a thousand police cars chasing them, why so many police cars needed?

Then even if they going slow it will be a slow possession with the thousand cars following them.

When they finally do stop the guy there seems to be no cop in charge as they all jump out guns in hand screaming at the driver and all seem petrified to approach the vehicle in question.

Maybe I am just used to it being like this and this is why we don't run BGRIN

I think it’s a bit silly myself. In a modern world with radios one would think the police could coordinate a controlled stopping point.

That's easy to avoid in a city.

Visited a friend in his garage once. The one who introduced me to the VF400 that just about killed me. Although strictly speaking, it was the car that did a U-turn in front of me, and he's not now my friend on his wife's orders, and he's under the thumb.

Anyway, I was visiting him in his garage. He was a motorcycle courier, had a big Japanese bike, 1000 or 1100. Tatty, as used 100s miles a day. Very good rider, fanatical rider. His bike was pink that year.

When I arrived at the garage he was painting it black. The previous evening, police standing in the road waved him down. He couldn't help it. No reason not to. He turned lights off, and went hell for leather.
In the UK, the police are known as the plod. Kinda self explanatory :-).
