Punching holes

My youngest son and I went out to punch some holes in a sheet of cardboard this afternoon. He was so glad to be shooting somewhere other than our old location because the range master there was always yelling for him to slow down. Not today, he was able to let loose. I didn't know he could fire that quick, it sounded like it was an auto instead of a semi-auto. The spent brass was flying out in what looked like a solid stream.

And then open sights at 100 yards with a Springfield 03A3 (30.06).

It ain't perfect but he only took up shooting about 4 months ago and hasn't had the chance to do it very often.

All my old hand loads are now gone, got to get me another loader. My old loading partner whose dies and press we used has moved out of the area and the factory stuff ain't cheap. 22 ammo is still fairly cheap and we will be doing more of it in the future but the heavy stuff will only be sent down range every now and then until I'm up and running on a reloader. Right now he is looking at or trying to talk me into an AR but the reloader has to come first. Once I buy the AR, if he talks me into it I will have to find a left-handed receiver for him. Maybe I'll get lucky and find a good used lefty for sell cheap.

i used to do all the reloading for me my dad and brother for the shotguns, ive made some very interesting loads for a laugh ! :y2:
for instance ........my dad has shouldered his gun takes aim at the passing rabbit ....BANG !..BANG ! goes the gun !
it takes 10 minutes for the dust clouds to clear , one white one brown ! its amazing what you can do with flower and gravy powder :y2:
DADS NOT LAUGHING ...... I RUN !

Before I became addicted to motorcycles my main hobby and sport was target shooting.
I was pretty good at it and won a gold medal at the Canadian nationals in 1981.
I was also 1987 IPSC (combat pistol) provincial champion.
Enough with the bragging :y2:
I still have my Dillion reloader and only load for .38 Special and .45 ACP now.
In my heyday I loaded for .38, .357, 9mm, .45 ACP and .44 magnum.

That's pretty good Rocky.Best I ever managed was winning the veteran class(rifle, not shooter)in our national high power match series. The cutoff date was,as I remember,1918.I was using a P14(Pattern1914-.303)

That's cool Rocky and it ain't bragging if you can do it and you did it.

We mostly loaded 44 Mag, 357 , 223 and a few 30.06. 44's were what we loaded the most and played around with ALMOST as bad as Shane. :y2: We were known to load them hot, pushed to the limit. We also cast our own for the 44 along with using some Speer offerings. We decided we might have been pushing it too much when we found a perfect bullet stop and mounted it at our shooting area. I never shot high with the 44 and each time I fired at the stop John kept saying I was shooting high. I told him there was no way and then he shot and I also told him he shot high which we both thought was odd because John never shot less than expert with any and everything he fired. He's the type shooter that made everyone else sick, he never missed. We walked down to our bullet stop and found 7 holes blown thru it. We decided we needed to back off on the charge we were using.

Fun stuff, I've really only done skeet shooting until now (which is a blast) but might get into target shooting as something else to do. It looks pretty fun.
