Poor Gas Mileage 2002 Bonneville America.

I got my bike back from the retired dealer and after a 90 mile ride I checked the plugs. They are both burning properly. I then filled up the tank again and can happily report that I now get 38 miles per gallon. All he found wrong was that the carbs weren't synchronized.

Good news. Also good information to remember.

I was concerned because the popping of the exhaust is still happening when letting off the gas. I guess that's the aftermarket exhaust.

This is something I’m also curious about. I don’t think exhaust/muffler popping is all that serious compared to if it happens at the carburetor. (If you have a carburetor version.)
