A Triumph service department suggested that I use a razor blade and elbow grease. USE NEITHER! Remove the heavy deposits from the COLD pipes, then simply use household paint remover with a shop rag. Then coat the exhaust with your preferred chrome treatment. 10 minutes to perform the task

Well it sure does a good job at removing the plastic and I would be very worried about using any type of blade on this type of thing as I am sure you would end up with some type of scratching.

I have to occassionally clean the area I hit with the heel of my boot getting the kick stand. I learned to use a penny. The copper will not scratch chrome, but it takes a while. I think you did well not to use a razor blade; I'd think that would scratch the chrome.

Thanks for the tip.

Holy hell, I have to question a service department that recommends a razor blade and elbow grease' on a piece of chrome. Maybe they were hoping you'd order your next set of pipes from them, once you'd trashed the current ones.

Great cautionary post, Angus!

Turp, the heel of my boot sometimes hits the left side muffler and deposits a bit of rubber.
Strange that it's only the left side.
That's where I first used the Easy-Off.
Chrome plating is quite thin so you don't want to be too aggressive.
