Did quite a bit of walking during the week, plus on the gap day, Thursday we got to travel up north and west of Douglas. Here's some of the better pics...

Some shots of the castle, very interesting listening to the recordings they give you, built during the 14'th and 18'th century:

Quite a distance from the shore, you might be able to swim but I certainly couldn't, there's basking sharks in them seas.

Thanks for the overview of the island :y115: :y115:
I've seen many pictures and TV coverage of the race track, but I always wondered what it was like away from the race track.
Good job!

Really good shots, Gareth. Thanks for taking the time to post them. I love that windjammer in your first photo. I have a thing for tall ships. Do you know the history behind the Castle of Refuge? It looks intriguing.

Thanks for sharing your photos and information. This is wonderful of you to share your trip. I will probably never see this area.

Avion,

Thanks for posting those pics. it's been over 34 years since I was last there. Hasn't changed much. Not like me anyway! lol. I took my newly restored BSA Bantam D14/4 175 over there in 75. I blew it up again on the way to the ferry. Had to push it up the gangplank... I emigrated to Oz in 77 and have promised myself another trip to theIsle when I return to the UK next year for a 10 week holiday. All being well, with my own bike and the Mrs..

The island is quite an interesting place an is full of history. The Celts, the Romans and even the bloody Vikings all had a go at it. The buildings are something else. Jeez, I can recall some very drunken nights on the IOM and Douglas waterfront. I also remember all the bikes lined up 3 deep along the footpath during the second week of racing. Magic stuff. The first week was practice and most of the good stuff arrived the following week.

Thanks again for jogging my memory Avion. Glad you had a great trip..
