The southern states of Australia are having the heatwave of the century at the moment. Currently here in Geelong near Melbourne Victoria, the temp is 43.7 deg cent. it's 12.22 pm and the temp is climbing steadily. Yesterday, Adelaide in South Australia had a record 46.6 degress centigrade. We usually kop their temps the next day so it's expected to be a bit warm today.

Yesterday, (Wednesday) it was 42.7 deg cent here. I went down to the shop on me bike and Boy, it was hot... To add to it, all the heat from the Trophy's motor was blowing up from beneath the fairing... Still, I won't stop riding no matter what the sun's doing...

We have an EXTREME fire alert on at present as we are very prone to bushfire. All along the Great Ocean Road on Victoria's south coast is currently on high alert as the rain forest comes almost down to the beaches (except for the brilliant bit of road, my playground, in between).

I read in the forums about you guys in the US, Canada and Europe suffering the extreme cold at present. At least you can warm up if nessecary. It's damned hard to keep cool when the demand for electricity due to all the air conditioners is so high... Transformers blowing up left, right and centre here...

Think I'll go to the pub for a while, like ALL DAY AND NIGHT.....

Yup, those temps you can keep Lee
While I'm working temps of 18 to 20 are good for me, any hotter and it aint comfy any more.
I visited my sis in perth a few years ago, and it hit 42 and 44 once or twice and it killed all desire to move.

Well here in sunny South Africa we have had a VERY wet summer .Rain rain And more rain .I love it

We've only had rain for 2 days otherwise we only get our nightly shower.

Poosta I'm a winter babe myself. Took a pic of my cars thermometer whilst on holiday - reading said 43. Too hot to move and everytime I moan about being hot the hubby says I must jump in the pool. All good and well if I'm at home!!!

In winter at least you can always get warmer by adding extra layers.

Hot weather makes me grumpy and unproductive.

Cold weather makes me perky.

We have crazy yo-yo weather here on the east coast of Canada. Yesterday it was -20C(-4F) and has been for a few days. Last night a blast of warm southern air came up the coast with snow, freezing rain, rain and today it's sunny and 1C (34F). That won't last and by the weekend we'll be back in the deep freeze.
I can handle to cold OK but sustained heat like 40C would kill me! Once you're stripped to the skin you can't go any farther. At least when it's cold you can put a parka on if you have to go out. We have three wardrobes; summer, spring/fall and winter.
During the winter we flip flop between spring/fall and winter clothes :ya2:

Pooksta, I would die in that heat, anything over 18c is too hot for me!
2 weeks ago we had a cold snap with temps down to -11C, this weekend it is forecast to be down to -7C overnight and heavy snow showers moving in from the east.
I think I prefer this to what you're having down under! If it gets too nippy I will throw an extra log on the fire! :ya2:

Wasn't that last storm great Rocky?

Overnight we got 7 inches of snow. The next day it was freezing rain on top of the snow which is always fun. That rain slowly turned to more snow.....that evening, we got another 4 inches. Last night, another 3 inches.

Yes Seeker, that was the same storm front that passed over you.
Still bright and sunny, but the temp is dropping fast and ice is forming everywhere. Very dangerous for both man and beast.

Well,

It's currently 32 deg cent at 05.35am. I've been working nightshift in the Divisional Van, not many people out and about but those that were, were just trying to cool off coz they can't sleep. It's forecasting another 43 degree day today so I'll set up camp in the fridge so I can sleep all day!

When I get out of the cot later in the day, I'll take the dog down to the beach and cool off before coming back to work for another n/shift. We have been having a less than normal summer until now but I think this has made up for it.

Looking forward to the ride home soon in the warm morning air.

Pooksta I was reading on News24 last night that you guys are having the hottest heat wave in 100 years. Don't know which part of Oz you are from but I hear Melbourne is having a heck of a time. Climate change is a bitch.

We've had unusual humidity this year. I normally avoid KZN this time of the year because it's like living in a wet blanket but this year their weather seems to have migrated north.

I've been watching the temps in Canada - now that is a country I could live in. Freezing weather and lots of snow! Problem is I would have to find a new hubby (he hates the cold).

It's a pastime around these parts to complain about the snow and cold. It gives people something to gripe about. But rarely do you see anyone actually move away from the snow belt. If they do, it's normally because they had to for a job or something. Then you hear those people say they miss the snow.

For us, we just don't think much about it....it's just natural that wintertime brings snow and cold.

Personally, I couldn't live where there is no snow. The only thing I give-up is being able to ride my bike. That sounds like a lot to give up, but there are more activities that I cannot do in the Summer that I enjoy doing which outweighs that.

Hey Lioness,

I'm only 80 klm from Melbourne on the west coast. Yeah, we jusy kopped the most days in a row over 43degrees centigrade in recorded history... (4) It was "BLOODY " hot. However, we are assured by the weather mob that there is no more +40 temps coming. It's curently a nice 33 deg and has a slight breeze so that's more like it. We kopped a record 45.1 deg on Friday. Then the power failed on us so no aircon, no fans and NO SLEEP for us poor sods on nightshift. I was grumpy as hell last night at work. Some poor sod I got for drink driving got the wrath of my sleeplessness. He wasn't a happy camper but neither was I... Silly sod.

Seeker, as for the snow, I grew up with that stuff in the UK, (Liverpool) and although I have fond memories of it as a kid, I can't say I miss it. I go up to the high country here in Victoria once every winter and do the snow sightseeing thing. That's enough to keep my interest. I however would miss riding my bike if I wasn't able to ride every day. Interestingly, the Trophy performed MAGNIFICENTLY in the extreme heat this last week.

Lee you are not going to believe this, but that would not be a heat wave up here in the summer. We can have that any year. It normally last about a week and then goes down some. Right now it's 1degree C. It has warmed up some.
