Good Day,
I have been lucky enough to be the new custodian of an all original, one owner 650 Bonnie in very good condition over all. The Speedo and Tach clocks have been lubed and are working but the bike has sat for so long, 1977, that the instruments are still not working. How do I remove the Tach Drive on the engine along with the Speedo rear wheel grease unit for service. Help!

I am sure once one of our classic members come along they can help you with this but also please post up some photo of your bike as we would love to see it.

Steve, remove the R axle, the spedo drive can be removed then be sure to keep up with the spacers also there will be a "spacer" on the inside of the drive housing, looks like a short piece of pipe, pay attention to the location of all of these parts, makes reassembly easier.
The tach drive can be removed by unscrewing the large slotted end cap and kicking over the engine, the drive gear should be pushed out, then remove the center bolt it has left handed threads, the housing should be released from the engine case. Good luck, hope i didn't leave a step out.

FWIW, check under the speedo drive unit.......there should be a small grease nipple on it. They only require a small amount of grease to be pushed in. Of course, taking it apart to check it will be the best way. Whatever, don't ever grease it too much over time.......you can send grease through the rear hub, into the rear brakes!
Don't ask the "village idiot" how he knows about this: Jim
