Ok guys, I want your opinion on my latest Scrambler mod.
I have mocked up a heat shield using hardboard, and would value your opinions before I make on out of aluminium.
So what do you reckon?

Re: Opinions?

prey tell me Steve
why is the original shield at the back of the pipes, and your prototype at the front.
It would seem either triumph got it totally wrong, or shields aren't needed at all.
As for your prototype, if you could get a bit of roll into the ali version, I think they would look ok.:y16:

Re: Opinions?

Hi Harry, you have bamboozled me again!:y2:
If you look at the first pic you will see the heat shield near the carb held on by 2 screws. There is also a heat shield on each of the pipes going all the way back to the silencers, I have taken all these off and fitted my 'mock up' in their place. There is also a small alloy heat shield fixed to the side panel at the back of the pipes.

Re: Opinions?

My honest opinion?.....

I like the stock small heat shield close to the carbs...I would keep that one on the bike.

Then create TWO (like your ONE), except smaller and curved around the pipes.

Re: Opinions?

AJ, you have just given me another idea! I will have a ratch around in my shed tomorrow night after work, I seem to remember having some perforated steel tube which might just work!

Re: Opinions?

sorry steve
I was seeing only the rear ones.
re: the ones at the front and middle, can you not put the stockers back on?
Failing that, I agree with AJ

Re: Opinions?

Well Gumpt you asked for opinions.

I think the stockers look good darn good. BUt the new straight pipes look DAMN GOOD. without the heat shield. However if you MUST place one for safety reasons (and I understand as I still have the scar from the high pipe of a Honda Trail 70 "back in the day" on my calf muscle then I think you are on the right track, just a little more......uhm.....little, or as stated more form fitting to the pipe like the stocker.

Re: Opinions?

Ok guys, thanks for the feedback. BeautifulBC, I could not stop laughing about using it as a bridge! LOL
The general concensus seems to be smaller is better, and with a bit of shape.
Well after AJ commented on making 2 heat shields started my brain cogs whirring!
So I found a length of this 40mm OD stainless steel tube in my garage,

Cut it in half,

Marked the hole centres and drilled it out for the Triumph heat resistant rubber grommets,

And with a little bit of filing and fettling, ended up with these,

I really like them!
