over here in uk a bike is given a registration number from new , which stays with it the hole of its life.
so the reg plate can get pretty tatty and cruffy over time , so i ordered one of ebay a couple of days ago and it came today.
its not till you get the old one of and compare it to the new one ,you relise how worn out it is . i put it on and the difference it makes to the look of the bike is quite suprising ! it just tidies the hole back end up .
plus i ordered one with a black surround which gives it a clean look :y15:

just something worth thinking about when your doing a tidy up or renovation !

Great to hear your back end is not tidy.....LOL!! :y2:

I imagine the black surround is better looking on a Trophy.

Our system is completely different here though. Each State issues it's own license plate tags and it could be anything unless you pay extra for a "vanity" plate (one with your own chosen letters or numerals). Of course, you can't pick something that's already been taken.

We also have classic and/or antique plates and the rules vary again from state to state on those.

But basically, all the states issue their tags and you can't go somewhere and just buy a new one.

were just stuck with the yellow plate with black letters , you can buy a private plate but like you they cost big money.

Actually a "vanity plate" is not much more than the regular ones, it's just that you can choose your numbers or letters insread of the State issuing one with random numbers & letters. Like my friend has 67 BSA on his. But they are still issued only by the State you live in.

I have a regular plate on my Trophy though that purely by chance was pretty cool because it came through with GB 1200

Now that is way cool. TUP

LOL, over here we don't like new plates. I mean we're constantly throwing mud, oil, grease and dirt over ours. A bit of sandpaper and sun bleaching goes a long way.:y2:

...

We have the exact same situation here as The Seeker. We have vanity plates provided by the province, but you can't fit anything not provided by the government.
We also can't fit plates from decades ago to our vintage bikes either because "they are no longer in the system."
If a plate is damaged, destroyed or no longer legible you have to buy a new plate from DMV and re-register the vehicle.
But as long as the plate is in good condition you own it forever and can transfer it to another vehicle upon purchase - or buy a new plate with the new registration.

I don't want to throw a spanner in the works here Shanered6, but I got a plate off ebay. It was the correct size, colour, spacings etc, and it failed the MOT!:y14:
The tester informed me that the plate should display the makers name, and British Standard number across the bottom of the plate.
The one I bought had no markings.
I had to buy another one! Got one from Halfords, and sure enough it has Halfords and the BS number printed across the bottom in small print!
Worth checking before MOT time!

Like Rocky in Canada, an extremely damaged and/or unreadable plate can get you a ticket from law enforcement. That said, it has to be VERY bad as they normally have better things to do than stop people for that.

I have never had a plate get to that point, so I'm not sure what the procedure is to replace one. I'm thinking though that you only need to apply for a replacement plate and pay that cost, but you don't have to re-register the vehicle completely.

OH S**T i didn't think of that ! i did think how they get away with it ! as you need to produce your REG DOC and ID to get a new one .

Might be a good idea. I had never heard of it before my last MOT. The funny thing is I have 'open' Mototwin pipes fitted which are a bit loud, they passed the test no problem!

its gone mad these days ! fail mot for no makers name on a number plate, and pass with load after market pipes. it dont figure.
i think ill put mega phones on my trophy :y2:
