Well, considering that Laredo, Texas is VERY slim pickings for motorcycle events, I have to make the most of what little we DO have.

So, I took my dirty old '66 Triumph 650 Bonneville to the First Annual Twin City Bike Fest and entered it in the bike show. Just parked it there, didn't even dust it off.

The available classes were "Street Stock", "Chopper" and "Custom Cruiser", period. Nothing for classic, vintage, British, or unrestored.

So, I was up against a WIERD mix including a friend's "Foggy Replica" Ducati Monster, and a handful of spotless HD & metric V-twins with all kinds of shiny "billet" bolt-on gee-gaws.

Unbelievably, the show judges understood what they were looking at, and I took home 2nd place!

One of the V-Twins took home 1st, not sure which. I had received several questions and positive comments regarding the Bonnie throughout the day, some by the members of the group sponsoring the bike show (part of a bigger 4th of July celebration all held on the same grounds).

So, dirty old Brit Iron making a respectable showing against bikes easily costing 4 and 5 times as much, and looking like 3 out of 4 in the parking lot.

LOL...that's great!! I love stories like that.

Around here they have a "Back to the '60s" type 4th of July weekend. Every available room within 50 miles is booked for it. People bring vehicles from many states away.

The 1st year they did it, I took my '69 Triumph TR6 car and my '69 Triumph Tr6 bike, while my buddy took his "black badged" '68 Lotus Elan Twin-Cam Coupe and '59 356B Porsche Roaster. Most people were clueless and walked right past them to the GTOs and Fiberglass fake hot rods. Only the discernible few stopped and talked.
