In this age of technology and internet and electronic communications, how does anyone stay 100% completely and utterly off the grid?
When I'm approached by a new client, I do all sorts of web searches from Google to Xobni, LinkedIn etc etc etc. Normally I find something even if it's very little, it's something. I've been trying to get a little info on a new client and this is the first time I've come up completely, totally empty-handed.

I just find it incredible that in this time and age, someone has managed to stay so completely off the grid!

That would raise a flag for me. They only way one can do that is to deliberately plan to be untraceable and take the measures to keep themselves below the radar. Even my dad, who has never in touched a computer in his life and has been retired since 1981, can be easily traced.

Carl, I vote for you second scenario - government entities go through Foreign Affairs under immunity laws - not through little guys like me. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it must be a duck!

I certainly concur with the duck bit! Clandestine government entities will not necessarily will not necessarily go through Foreign Affairs. It all depends on what their objective is. And that includes your own government's clandestine activities.

I agree - every once in while, I get an 'under the radar' application coming across my desk but..................there's always something to substantiate it. This one was just completely a blank sheet. So we've passed on the work with apologies:y16:

I do inward bound immigration to SA - mostly work permits for foreigners on contract to SA companies. Won't believe what I see and the real con-artists out there. Just had a "Master of Engineering" candidate whose degree was downgraded by the South African Qualifications Authority (on assessment), to a Bachelor's degree and that's a mild incident.
