I had to do something yesterday that I hate doing, go to the grocery store on a Friday afternoon. But while I was there I notice something that I hadn't before. The H.E.B, stores in the area and I guess most of Texas has free samples on Fridays. Ok, that part I had noticed but the samples given were what I noticed this time.
The H.E.B. down the street from my office has a gentleman or lady, nicely dress giving out free wine and cheese samples of some of the better brands. I guess that has to do with the store's location, in a "I'm better than you" attitude community. Now fast forward to yesterday, I was in the H.E.B. down the street from my house. I walk past this young woman with this huge growth on her chest, it was so bad the buttons on the blouse were about to pop and this growth was so bad it was also coming out of the top of her blouse. I mean it was just terrible, it really drew my eyes right to this growth. After I finally got over the initial shock of seeing this malformation, I realized she was offering free beer samples, well after about the six or seventh trip past her she seemed to realize she had already given me six or seven samples so I wasn't thinking I should go get another.
But it made me wonder if the difference in sampler giver outters was due to the demographics for the two areas or if it was because the "I'm better than you" crowd would have been appalled by someone with such a medical deformity?
I think I will make it a point to run by my local store again next week to give this poor girl some additional moral support. Can you believe it there was some hard hearted people that would walk pass her without accepting her offer of a free sample?
Oh, by the way, H.E.B. is a Texas grocery chain founded by H.E. Butts, I've been told his real name was Harry E. Butts, but I can't prove it.
