This brings to mind the quote from Forrest Gump: "Momma says, Stupid is as stupid does."

From the "what was he thinking?" file:

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- One of the country's most famous and successful motocross racers is accused of impersonating a police officer after he allegedly pulled over three off-duty officers.

WFTV was there as 25-year-old James Stewart Jr. was released on bond from the Orange County Jail overnight.

Stewart allegedly targeted three men in a car and activated his blue and red dash lights and pulled them over in a fake traffic stop on State Road 417. Police said the incident happened at about 4:50pm on Monday.

Stewart's passenger, 44-year-old Thames Jehrrod Quinault, from California, was also arrested for tampering with evidence after police said he tried to hide the blue and red lights from state troopers in his luggage.

According to the arrest affidavit, the three men said as soon as they identified themselves as two off-duty Florida Highway Patrol troopers, and one Osceola County deputy, Stewart and Quinault fled in Stewart's 2008 Toyota Tundra pickup truck.

The troopers notified FHP dispatchers and called 911 to report the impersonator. An Orange County Sheriff's Deputy and an Orlando Police Officer initiated a traffic stop at the Orlando International Airport and arrested Stewart and Quinault.

Stewart told troopers he'd purchased the light system at a flea market. Both the vehicle and the lights were confiscated. Officers said they did get a confession out of Stewart.

Stewart, known as "Bubba" to his fans, didn't have much to say as he left the jail overnight, days after he competed in a huge event in Canada.

Stewart has made millions of dollars on the Supercross series. He has his own website and TV show on the cable channel Fuel.

This made big news here. I have no idea what possessed him to do something so stupid. He got just what he deserved. He could forfeit his truck and probably will.

Another case of a celeb acting badly.
This was the first I had heard of the incident and I shake my head in dismay.
What a stupid stunt by anyone let alone a high profile person.
He needs his a$$ kicked and a dose of reality.

I'm thinking he may have his dose of reality. Florida generally takes impersonating a LEO very seriously and it is a felony charge. He may be able to plea bargain to a misdemeanor charge; but it will cost him some some real money.

The outcome of the forfeiture depends on the judge, the prosecutor, and how the case goes. A likely scenario is that Bubba will plead guilty in return for no jail time. Since this is a high profile case and impersonating a LEO is taken very seriously, I don't think Bubba will be offered a plea bargain to a misdemeanor. If he does not have a record, he will probably forfeit the truck, pay a hefty fine plus court costs, and receive a suspended sentence - in other words probation. He will also have to pay the costs of probation. If the judge grants the forfeiture, the truck will likely go to some law enforcement agency or to an emergency management agency.

Losing a vehicle isn't much of a punishment for a person of wealth. The dealerships are full of them.
The outcome of the court date will be interesting to see, but I think Carl has it pegged right. He's a well known high profile person and not a criminal, but he deserves to be slapped well and good.
This incident may not hurt his reputation at all, but who knows. If I were him I would worry about his sponsors. They may take a dim view of his foolishness, but then maybe not.
As in all things great and small, time will tell.

If Toyota is one of his sponsors, the truck may not actually be his, that is, titled in his name. A lot of times vehicles are loaned (leased) by the company to the individual they are sponsoring. He may not have any money in other than his mods and insurance.
