Hi I have a 2016 bonneville scrambler with 2k on the clock and absolutely love it, not the fastest thing I have owned but definitely the most fun.
I was in very heavy traffic yesterday and couldn't pass it and I noticed when engine was very hot it was making quite a lot of mechanical noise, do I take it that because of being air cooled this is normal as oil getting thin?
cheers
Rich

Hi Rich and welcome to TT BBEER , I would think that with only 2k on the clock its just the engine starting to slacken up and run in , but there will be an element of the oil thining as well if its getting hot in slow traffic .

I've been lucky enough to have had a few of these things down the years and yes, they do produce some mechanical noise.
It seems to eminate mostly from the primary drive, you'll find it changes as you pull the clutch in, but I've yet to hear of one breaking without severe provocation!

Compared to my water-cooled Honda my T100 makes a lot of engine noise.
That just goes with being air-cooled I think. A bit looser tolerances to compensate for heat expansion.
These engines are overbuilt and almost bullet proof.
I wouldn't worry about a bit of mechanical noise unless it was a hammering/pounding noise or something terrible like that.

No that would be Rocky trying to put his fence back up after he blew it over with his snow blower !!! :D

The reason you hear mechanical noise from your engine is simple... Your exhaust system is way too quiet - it should overpower all other sounds within a 200 meter radius. May I suggest some Norman Hyde Togas?

Your concern should be more for the heat,
