on my 1982 T140es battery is good and charged but when i turn on the ignition switch i get nothing not even lights. my main fuse is good under the seat and connections at battery are clean and tight. with key on and switch in run position. tried the test light from fuse to positive of #2 capacitor and got nothing. FYI bike has been this way since trailering it home in a heavy rain storm for 2 hours. what is the next step i should do. and is there some thing that is always a common problem. and also bike is all original including electrical. but with very low miles any help would be great thanks.

Thanks for the advice I too wondered about the switch contacts. I popped the top off the warning light console. But I wasn't sure how to pop the top free from the light sockets. Do they just pull out of the sleeves they are in? And I will also check the ground.

If you have a test/probe light, now's the time to pull it out and check each part of the circuit, starting with the battery to fuse block and from there onward. By the way, did you change the fuse, just to be sure; fuses are very strange things, sometimes.
........and that's about the extent of the "village idiot's" knowledge of the "black arts": Jim

I can't say how a T140ES is set up, but the warning lamps on a T140V simply pulled out of the sleeves.

Your trouble could be in the ignition switch internally, or a wire may have come loose from the connections in the rest of ur under the rubber cover.
