No Green light

Tested sensor with continuity tester and it worked. The power wire is NOT hot. No juice from it. Checked fuses. Any suggestions?? Side stand switch tested and works fine. Acts as if bike is in gear. Bike will start (with clutch in) with stand up. But won’t start with stand down, as if it thinks bike is in first gear.

Any help?
Nick

You don’t say what bike this is. On systems like this the side stand provides an earth for the ECU when it’s up but not when it’s down. Therefore the only place you will find an earth with the stand down is from the neutral switch/sensor.

From you description the side stand is working fine but the ECU is not getting an earth from the neutral switch/sensor when the bike is in neutral and this should be not affected by whether there is a positive supply to the neutral lamp or not. It should be hot whenever the ignition is on as its the neutral switch/sensor in the gearbox which determines whether it’s lit or not.

You say you have checked the fuses. Whilst the fuse for this circuit might be good are the fuse tangs making good contact with the fuse carrier. If so I would still swop the fuse out. But this will not deal with the lack of an earth from the neutral switch/sensor reaching the ECU.

We know the side stand switch is providing an earth when the stand is up, but not when it’s down. Is it possible to check the output side of the stand switch for an earth when the stand is down and the bike is in neutral?

On my Ducati the ECU earth is controlled solely by the side stand so I had to run a wire from the neutral switch to the output of the side stand switch to allow a start with stand down. But with stand up the neutral light would then have been permanently illuminated because the side stand would have supplied the earth. To overcome this a diode was included in the neutral switch to side stand switch wire which only allows the earth to flow in one direction.

Let us know how you get on.
