My name is Rob. I have been riding since 1977 with a break for a few years until 2010. I first rode a Kaw 100. Then a 400 and then the amazing KX1000. I rode MX for a few years, mostly enduro trail stuff and then I ended my riding for a while.
I reentered the scene with a 1980 Yamaha XS 650 which I stripped down and modified extensively. I essentially replaced every element on the bike except the transmission. I used this bike to learn al I could about vertical twins. After a second sheared valve experience, I sold it and all I had acquired and chose to go a safer and more reliable route by buying a Triumph Street Twin. I got about 2K miles in the first season and now I am about to begin my first full season with a goal of about 5K this year. I bought it from Chicago Motoworks downtown and they are a very impressive shop. They offer pickup and delivery for service and everyone there seems to really love their jobs. I couldn't be more pleased.
I bought my wife a pink helmet for Christmas and I hope she will help me track some of those future miles, but the' still up in the air.
I added a grab rail and luggage rack and the engine bars for safety. I do not think they detract too much from the cool Triumph styling. If so, I can always remove them. I did not have to remove the tank or loosen the radiator to get to the upper engine mount bolts. It was a tight go, but I got to them without dinging anything.
So, there you go. I am looking for a cool leather Triumph jacket and the Triple leather seems to be out of stock everywhere, so I'll have to be patient. I look forward to reading and participating on this site, but I don't seem my contributions being anything like they were on the XS650 site. I have some threads there that went on for days and weeks. I don't see me doing many mods on this bike. So lets talk adventure. Grace and Peace to you all.
