I just installed new Dunlop Trailmax (110/80-19 & 140/80-17) on my Bonnie and I experienced something I never had before on new tires:
I just rode 3 Km on totally dry asphalt but I felt I was riding on a road covered with oil. On the first roundabout at less than 30Kmh it skidded and I almost hit the ground. It scared the heck out of me!
Is this normal for new Dunlops?
How many miles do I need to ride for them to have a normal grip?
Thanks!

Joao, some new tires seem to be worse about this than others. All new motorcycle tire should be ridden cautiously for the the first 100 miles (160 Kilometers) or so until they are scrubbed in. I have seen more than one person go down on new tires. Glad you didn't go down!!!

If the bike was ridden after the photo shoot in the previous topic without cleaning the tyres, I think the problem may have been the protection or detailing material making them shine as they were. Years ago I used a rasp on new tyres before riding, today I wash them with strong soap then rince well with water. I also like to find a very abrasive road for the first hard ride. Otherwise I just build up slowly to normal riding over about 50 Km.

After looking at said photos, I think you have hit the nail on the head.
