Grumpy Old Man
Every time I log in I see new members, but seldom any posts from them. Surely we can't be that intimidating? :silent:

As with most forums, a lot of folks join and never post. Some newbies will post because they have a specific need or question. Once that is resolved, they never become involved.

I guess you could say they have better things to do!?! Oh well, their loss..........
I know sometimes I get super busy and wrapped up in the day to day grind, and never get to check out what's going on here, but I try to check in once in awhile. It's an excellent diversion from work! ;-)

We're just a bunch of grumpy, snarling, complaining old men who intimidate any newcomers invading our space and repel them at every opportunity.
After Dave and Carl rough them up we whup them with our canes and run over their toes with our electric wheelchairs.
Pass the Viagra and Geritol please :ya2:
But seriuosly, I think Carl hit the nail on the head.

This has been one question that I have been trying to find the answer for since we started TT  :ya2: Some feed back that I have had from time to time is that we don't discuss motorbikes much here :y114:

That may be part of the problem (in a good way) - older (maturer) riders riding modern machines that are reliable and an age group that aren't into constantly modifying our bikes like the younger folks do.
If your bike isn't having any problems and you're not much into mods, there isn't a lot to talk about.
My T100 is box stock and I just ride it and maintain it. There isn't much else to say about it.
We don't get into "what brand of oil" or "what brand of tires" like many forums do. We seem to have that figured out for ourselves for the most part.
It seems that when we get a vintage question things get rolling. Many of us here have "been there, done that" with vintage and still are doing it.

Plus, instead of arguing (often times about things that really are either just a matter of choice or don't matter much) like they do on some boards, we respect others opinions. Some boards go into pointless debates. I think it's just to stroke their egos sometimes.

On a lot of forums you get people that have been there a looong time, that have no patience for newbies, think they have seen it all, and they are the end all of all opinions etc.
I like to think of Triumph Talk, not as a bunch of professional wrenchs (except for Grand Paul as he is the resident PRO), but a bunch of friends sitting around the living room, garage, bar, what have you, talking about bikes and sharing stories and pictures. We just happen to be in the same room all over the world.

Dave that is actually what TriumphTalk has turned out to be and most of the newbies don't stick around long enough to even see that side and I feel they actually miss out. I mean we can have difference of opinions without it getting all nasty and bitter :y18: I mean just the fact that we never do any moderation as such speaks volumes. The biggest moderation we do is moving a topic now and then that may be better placed in some other area :y18:

Now I think I will just go along and start an oil thread :y114:

Carl, for pete's sake, make sure you are using extra virgin olive oil. The regular olive oil will gum up your clutch plates, and they will require a pimento scrub.
