Hi all,

I'm new and I'm looking forward to digging around to see all the useful articles that are here. I had a '73 Bonneville that was stock for several years - several years ago - maybe ten years ago. I just bought a '71 Trophy bobber that I can't wait to take ownership of. Currently its in Pompano, FL, but it'll make its way to me in Charlotte, NC this week.

I'm looking forward to getting familiar with the bike and all its foibles and hoping to learn from others mistakes before I make them myself. Obviously, if I do make mistakes and learn the proper way to do something, I'll be posting that information for others.

Thanks for having me! Oh yeah, I've been riding since around '83 or so. It was dirt bikes back then. I moved straight to Harley's after that and have been on them primarily since then. I gotta say that I'm looking forward to this adventure...BIGTIME!

I forgot that I "screenshot" the photos from the listing. This is the paint job. Its brand new according to the dealership, but it's coated in black "Plasti-Dip" right now. I'll post one of those pictures after this.

Here's the Plasti-Dip version of the bike. He says that the dip just peels right off and acts like a paint protector. Now that I'm writing this - I might have made a mistake. He asked if I wanted him to have it all taken off professionally and after I saw the pictures, I said no. It looks tough as hell. Maybe I should have had him remove it - we'll see.

Welcome and good luck with the Bobber.

I’m looking forward to the peeled pics! LoL. If the plastidip was put on just for protection it might not be in every nook and cranny. I know a MINI owner that years ago put some on his car. It does come off and it does eventually get damaged so he was peeling and reapplying it continuously. I really didn’t get the attraction but he liked the plastidip look. To me it was a maintenance hassle. Let us know when your ride arrives. Love the old classics.

You're probably right. I have no experience with the stuff. I just saw the pictures and thought it looked cool, plus a little protection in transit never hurt. I'm sure it'll be a huge mess and a P.I.T.A. to get off, especially the wheels. Maybe there's an applicator that de-applicates? I know I've seen the applicators around town.

It scratches off and peels. Just don’t use anything metallic to get it started. Those plastic body trim tools found in automotive parts stores will get you there. They have flat parts that can gently peel the stuff off. Just go slow. I’d avoid chemicals. It most likely will damage what is underneath.
