When I was boy back in the 50's, Altamonte Springs was a rural town out in the boondocks. The Atlantic Coast Railroad had four local passenger trains a day that stopped here, a northbound and southbound in the mornings and afternoons. there were two express passenger trains each day and two and night; but you had to catch them in Orlando or Sanford. Sometime in the late 50's the Atlantic Coast line discontinued passenger service as did nearly all of the major railroads in the country.

Amtrak, a government subsidized rail service, was created that has two express passenger trains each day and two each night. However Amtrak does not go to every state in the country. Our passenger rail service is very meager when compared to Japan or Europe except for the Atlantic corridor from Washington DC north to New York and the New England states.

Starting the May 1st, we have a new commuter rail service that runs from Deland to south Orlando. Back in April, SunRail brought the new trains to each station for a half a day so the public could see them and tour through them. I still love trains and I had to take the tour. Here are some pics I took with my smart phone.

Cool pics.
Like down there, much of our rail service was discontinued years ago and the rails torn up.
There is only one direct line in and out of the province now, and no provincial rail service at all.
It's all trucks these days.
Your phone pics are very good. Quality certainly has improved.

Cool photos. There's an Amtrak that passes near my son's place daily but I haven't seen it yet. The route it takes is east/west so it's not up in our area.

You know Carl, you do take pretty good photos when you have a camera with you. TUP :y2:

Thanks, Rocky. This phone takes much better pics than my old one. I just need to learn how to zoom and use the various settings.

BGRIN Thanks, Tony.

Holy cow, I thought that it was a Jumbo jet coming into land. Boy that's a big one ( The Train ).
How fast can that thing go ?

I don't know how fast it can go. I think that through this area there is a 65 mph/ 105 kph speed limiton all trains. Since the SunRail is a commuter train with frequent stops, I suspect it does not have an opportunity get much above 75mph/121 kph.
