I have just bought a new digital compact camera,
an Olympus mju 9000. First impressions are very good. It has 12 mega pixels, 10x optical zoom, 28mm wide angle lense, and more settings than anyone could ever need! The 2.7" LCD screen is very easy to see. I am very impressed with the zoom and macro modes.
Here are a few pics.
The camera,

The next three shots were taken in landscape mode, starting with no zoom, up to full zoom.

The next two were taken on automatic, showing the full range of zoom.

The next one was taken on macro, followed by super macro.

All in all I am pleased with it, it was £199 including a 4gb micro sd card, charger, usb cable, and a photo editing software package for the computer.

Very impressive quality. I'll have to look that one up and see if it's available in the US. I'm sure the price will be a bit higher in USD, but you never know.

It is called the Olympus Stylus 9000 in the US, base price is $179 US (lowest price I found anyway). Full kit with memory and case, etc is around $250. Not bad at all, might be my bonus gift to myself next month!

Excellent choice for a pocket camera :y115:
I have a similar Canon model that survived my crash in Peru. It took a lickin' and kept on tickin' :ya2:
Similar cameras have tons of features built into them and are ideal for motorcyclists to carry and bring into action.
Things certainly have come a long way from my Kodak Brownie days :oh:

The only drawback is the expensive proprietary memory card. 199 was a good price.

Perhaps they used to be proprietary but.......

Looking at the front of the camera, it says it is Xd and Sd card compatible.

It really MUST be a great camera because it can even take photos of ITSELF! That's quite some trick!
