I have just been looking at the details for the new Triumph 800 Tiger Sport. The lump is 798cc, just 33cc more than the 765 yet produces slightly less power albeit weighing 25kg more. Torque is just 3Nm more at 1000 revs earlier. Why didn’t they just use the existing Striple lump and save on all the R&D time that they will have inevitably spent?
