On the subject of MoTs I have a Street Triple and have removed the pillion footpeg hangers. I have been told that it would fail the MoT if I still have the apology for a pillion seat still fitted So I will have to buy or make a cowl.

Ministry of Transportation (UK) or Transport (Canada). When used simply by the 3 letters, it usually means the annual (maybe 2-5 years, depending, and at change of ownership) operational and safety check of motor vehicles, including motorcycles.
Ah thanks, we do not have transportation nazis in Nevada USA LOL

In the UK the statutory inspection regime commences at the start of the fourth year from first registration for bikes and cars. Not sure whether HGVs are subject to more rigorous or frequent inspections. Change of ownership has no bearing on the procedure and you can arrange a test up to a month in advance of the due date without affecting that due date.

If your machine is over 40 years old you can apply for it to be classed as a historic vehicle which means that the statutory inspections are no longer required and in addition you do not have to pay any annual VED (Vehicle excise duty aka road tax). A saving of just over £100 for a bike and £165 ish for a car unless it has a list price of more than £40k in which case they will charge you £520 for the first 6 years. The MoT test is £30 for a bike and £55 for a car.

My mate in Germany advises that they have similar procedures including the historic vehicles classification.

I guess the authorities thought if it is over 40 years old it’s not going to be travelling at a very fast rate, hence no need to regularly test it. How wrong they were. LOL
