On our many trips to New England over the years we usually pass through the state of New Hampshire. It's a beautiful state full of mountains, theme amusement parks and great motorcycle roads.
This is a picture taken a couple of years ago in the fall as we passed by Mount Washington Hotel. We've passed by it many times and always said we should forget the prices and stay one night just for a lark - but we never did. We were always passing by during the day on the way to somewhere else.
On this day the sun was shining brightly and the mountain was covered in snow.
I've been to the top of the mountain by car 2-3 times, but the only time I was there by motorcycle it was raining and the mountain was shrouded in clouds. I was very disappointed that I didn't get to go up.

Nice pic.

But a VERY interesting bit of trivia that I just heard last night on TV......

At the peak of Mt Washington is a privately operated (non-government) weather station which measures all sorts of climate things.

But, they said Mt Washington has the highest-ever recorded wind speeds of anywhere on the planet. They say it is unique because of the location and the angle of the cliffs. -

It was a program about the planet Mars. They were saying winds on Mars can be as much as 800 MPH.

I can't recall the exact record-breaking wind speed recorded on Mt Washington....I think it was like 300 MPH !!

But, I do remember they said that it's location get winds from the Atlantic Ocean, the Ohio River Valley, and South from Canada which combines with the angle of the mountain to cause that.

Yes, there is a strange weather pheonomeon there that causes the high winds. Some of the U.S. Weather Service buildings are anchored down with cables so they won't blow away.
Even in the summer time it's cold and windy up there.
You can probably find lots of pictures on the internet about Mt. Washington. The ice and snow up there in the winter is like nowhere else.
The Auto Road to the top is very steep and you can burn up your brakes coming down if you're not careful. Engine braking is the answer, but I've seen lots of people ride the brakes all the way down :y13: Some people just don't know how to drive!
