Check the prices at your local supermarket, Jim,...

Bottled water is already about as expensive as gasoline. Maybe not by the gallon bottle, but certainly by the pint, quart and liter bottles.

I'm going to my local store in a couple of minutes. I'm going to check out the prices. Granted, they will be California prices, which are already out of line with most of the country just by being in CA.

We here in Massachusetts can get gallons for less than a dollar if you buy the "store brands, etc." when they have specials. Then, you have to figure in what the "road usage taxes, etc.", and how the government will apply them; probably have to buy tinted water (like diesel fuel) or be fined for using tap water from your home. For these reasons alone, I can see the government buying this guy out or finding some other way to stop him. All in all, it's pretty much a "pipe dream", when all is said and done.

Here, the store brand gallons are $.79 - .99 per gallon. The name brands are $1.79 - 2.19 per gallon. The sport bottle sizes, which is where the demand is, are well over $4.00 when bought individually, and well below the gallon price (per gallon) when bought by the case.
If the guy's invention were to proceed, the demand for water would go sky-high, especially here in the west where water is generally a scarce commodity, and therefore the price would sky-rocket. And, you're right, the government geeks would pull their hair trying to figure out how they're going to get their piece of money stream.

By the way, Diesel is tinted red to show that is not taxed the same as regular diesel fuel, and that is why it is to used only for non-road use: tractors, generators, etc. If an on-road vehicle is found to be using red diesel, the fine is very steep.

Interesting, Grey, I thought that the fuel was tinted to prevent the use of home heating oil in vehicles. Or is heating oil tinted a different color as well. Having owned a house that's all electric, the thought hasn't crossed my mind in years.
