I wasn't into motorcycles from 1959 until 1992 so don't have any experience with any kind of bikes during those years.
What I know now is from video like this, TV programs and magazine articles.

I feel that doing this type of riding taught me more than what I learned on the normal roads

Even when I was young I only rode on roads and had no desire to do off-road.
When I came back to bikes in 1992 I was middle-aged and not about to risk my older bones in the rough.
I preferred to risk them in the mountains of Peru at age 70 and smash my shoulder
