I've been a bit of a Michelin fan boy since the 90's. Having always used their tyres on all my road bikes since.

However having knackered tyres both front and back I had to get some new ones sharpish.

The Michy front 2CT has cupped badly after approx 9 000 kms. I've measured scallops of 2mm between the tread of the tyres. I've had front braking issues and vibration at high speed no matter what I tried. The front has been feeling vague for a while now, and I've been trying to cure by adjusting the forks. No luck.

I've never had this problem before using the Michy Pilot Sport, Pilot Power or Road 2CT.

Now I've jumped from the bus and gone for Pirelli. The Diablo Rosso Corsa's to be exact.
I've only just fitted them, and will try them out tomorrow weather permitting.

I'll post after a couple of thousand to let you guys know how I'm getting on with them.

Off to Sabie again early next month. Woooot! :y18:

Tyres are definitely not cheap. Some tyres seem to cup on some bikes. When the Bonnies first came out, they were equipped Bridgestone Battlax. The front tires cupped badly on a lot of Bonnies. Most of us changed to Metzeler, Dunlop or Avon. I changed to Metzeler and have been using them ever since. I have no cupping on either T100.

You just reminded me that just before Winter set in here, I was dealing with a cupping front tire on my Trophy. I was going to buy a new Avon for it over the Winter, but they quit making my size in Avons. I then forgot all about it...LOL!!

Carl,
I'm getting ready to buy new tires. I have the original Bridgestone Battlax on my 2004 Black Bonnie with 9,300 miles and they still look in pretty good shape, although there is some cupping. What size Metzelers do you use and where do you buy?

Ronnie, I use stock size on the front and I use 140/80's on the rear of both T100's. I buy them form an independent shop. I get them for just a few dollars more than internet prices. He can order me any brand I wish. He is a dealer for Metzler, Shinko, and some other brands. You can also get them through a Triumph dealer.

Carl, what kind of mileage do you get with Metzelers? The Tbird guys are all screaming for a different tire because many of us only get 7k. But unlike you we have little choice due to the rear size. Few people seem to make a 200. I wanted Michelins badly, but they don't either tho they say they have one in the works. Avon also has a set in the works due out soon which they did due to Tbird owners demand. many love avons but if they don't wear as well or are significantly cheaper than the metz, no reason to go there. The metz handle great. few if any complaints there. But man, tire costs are just over board when you replace them that often. I'd love a set of Michelin dual compounds like the pilot series. I fear leaving metz tho unless it's a tire i have faith in for stickiness, and i do have faith in Michelin. But again, who knows if they will wear a lot better. I sure as heck won't give up safety for $ either. If i can't get a tire thats equally sticky and better mileage, it's "stick" with metz.

I get 7,000 to 8,000 out of a rear Metzler. I would like to do better. But they perform well in the twisties. I am now running an Avon on the rear of my T100. I will see how it does. It certainly sticks well.

Wow, thats about the same as me. I was geting about 9k on my speedy and thats almost 100Lbs more than your bonnie, so i'm surprised you get that little. I will be unterested to see what u get on the avons because i'm hoping the Tbird set they're in the process of tooling up for arrives by the time i need new tires. Glad to hear they stick well. I think you'll get better because there are guys running them on the rear of the bird (using mismatched front since they don't make the same model in our front size) and they are saying that the wear so far is looking like they will get quite a bit more.

I still had better than 1000 miles left on mine when I put the Avon on. But I was headed for North Carolina and the mountains and just the trip up and back put 1250 miles on the bike. I wanted good tires for the twisties - and used them - no chicken strips on the left sides at all and about 1/8 inch on the right side.

I decided on Avons for my Bonneville. Liked the reviews and got them at a great price at Chaparral Motorsports- $76.88/$111.88 and free shipping. Best buy I found on the Inernet. Will make a comment later after a few rides.

Gareth. The The Diablo Rosso Corsa is the tyre that the bloke from Pirelli reccomended I put on the Daytona for track days. How are you finding yours? (I know...... you look at the wheels and there they are!)

Finding them great for road use. Not been on a track with them yet. They warm up quickly and offer superb grip. Turn in is a little slower but very linear. The carcass is a little softer so I had to add a little compression to the rear. Very happy with them and will use them again.
