3BR X~PWR External Power Case For GoPro Hero3 and Hero4

Perfect for road trips or those who like to record their daily commute for security reasons.

The advent of the personal action camera like the GoPro has spawned an entire camera-mount industry that spans from the loathsome “selfie stick” to auto-stabilizing gimbals for radio-controlled drones. There’s equipment to solve any mounting challenge, but what about the issue of the camera’s limited battery life?

3BR Powersports recognized that the biggest challenge facing video-recording motorcyclists is battery life, so it designed a case for the popular GoPro Hero 3 and Hero 4 that incorporates a USB port and matching power cable that allows you to keep your camera charged while you’re using it. The case works with all existing GoPro mounts, and the entire setup (including the cable connection) is waterproof. The kit includes the case and an 18-inch charging cable for plugging into your bike’s existing USB outlet, or you can purchase an accessory fused power cord (from 12 to 66 inches starting at $11) and wire it directly to your battery.

We used three X-PWR cases and cable kits to record the all-day action during a recent adventure in the Rockies (Scramblers in the Rockies,” November 2015, MC). The hardest part of installing the kit is running the wiring to the battery, but the female end of the accessory cable has a swiveling, flexible, adhesive-backed holder that makes attaching the USB outlet really easy.

During the trip we rode through rain, rivers, and plenty of dust and mud, and the cameras remained charged and sealed away from the elements. Having the bike’s 20 amp-hour battery and alternator to draw off meant we could use power-draining Bluetooth apps at will, and keeping the cameras running all day meant we never missed a shot. This setup is perfect for road trips or those who like to record their daily commute for security reasons.
