I agree, our service is held in our hearts, we do not wear it on our sleeves for pride. I am in the local Veterans honor guard. our town had a parade this last Saturday. When I greet a fellow Vet I simply shake hands and say good morning and God bless. Not thank you for you service. One thing I’ll give the UK is that they do a lot for their Vets. Significantly more than the US does for theirs. Things have VASTLY improved there since 9-11. We were on the right track until the current administration took over and slashed much of the previous gains.
As far as I’m concerned, screw the public at large. If they want to be ignorant jackasses, let them. Personally I typically get annoyed when some ‘tard says “thank you for your service” to me. It’s often just a condescending quasi-insult. As long as a country’s Vets are taken care of with tangible benefits and payments it’s all good. Vets have each other for bro-ups and support. We don’t need the populace. I’d rather they just leave me alone.
Not wishing to hijack this tread but here's the real Vimy Ridge. This Lego Vimy Memorial is on display at the Alberta Legislature Building in Edmonton. I took these pictures while doing some service work at the building.View attachment 56486View attachment 56487View attachment 56488View attachment 56489View attachment 56490View attachment 56491
One can see that the Lego artist did a diligent job of capturing/replicating the real Memorial. Not wishing to hijack this tread but here's the real Vimy Ridge.
