I finally got around to fixing my leaky valve cover. I kept putting it off out of fear of the large task. You know, taking off the tank, etc. Made me nervous. It was starting to leak a fair bit and making everything messy. So, I embarked upon this task with much success. It wasn't too difficult. I replaced the gasket as well as new bolts and washers. I've riden 100 miles since the replacement with no leaking evident. It was my first big repair and it went well. The youtube videos out there helped me a lot. Sorry I didn't take pictures but it took me about an hour. Pretty quick.

You probably meant to say the valve cover - or am I out in left field.
Doing things like this can be a bit daunting at first if you haven't done it before, but now that you've done it, it probably wasn't all that hard.
An hour is very good for a first timer. Good for you! Very well done TUP
A few years ago I replaced my valve cover with a chrome one just for the bling factor. I used the old gasket and all the hardware and it has never leaked a drop - but you can't go wrong with using new parts.
Every fall I remove the gas tank to drain the gas before storage and often the hardest part is getting the gas line to let go from the petcock :y2:
Congrats on the repair. That's more knowledge about your bike in the memory bank.

Is this the cover that you removed?

Yes, it often is the hardest part - especially if it has quite a bit of gas in it - which makes the tank heavy and awkward to handle.

Of course my tank was full of gas. No sense preparing or making life simple. My husband helped me lift it off. I wasn't willing to risk it slipping. I already have one dent in the tank (from the previous owner).

Next... heated grips... I think.

And the trick when replacing the tank is to make sure you dont pinch the vent line,or else you will be wondering why your bike keeps stalling all the time.:)
