What a catastrophe for Japan
Having seen what a 7 magnitude earhquake can do, one can only imagine the destruction from a high 8.
Some of the footage coming out is unbelivable.
With the almost simultaneous volcanic eruptions from Russia and Indonesia , and the recent quakes, cyclones and floodings, its as if the re-set button has been pushed.

I saw that on the news the morning as I was getting ready to ride to Daytona. When I let, they were reporting over 200 deaths. I am sure the count has gone up now. 8.8 magnitude, that is a terrible shake. And Japan is so densely populated. My heart goes out to those folks in that area.

Yeah...it's really amazing video coming out of Japan.....but I feel for the people. A ferry is missing and an entire bullet train has disappeared. Hundreds dead, mostly from the tsunami and their nuclear reactor is building coolant pressure.

This is one reason I love living where the worst thing we ever get is an occasional bad snow.

It's incredible isn't it? I couldn't believe the video i was seeing. looked like end times beginning. Unfortunately I think 200 dead is going to be the tip of the iceberg. Even the west coast here was hit in several places, tho of course not to any huge degree. i will have to watch the news when i get home to see about that. But i can't even fathom how Japan even survived this to the degree they did, even tho it's horribly bad as is. But they said the quake was 1000 time stronger than the northridge quake we had here in '94, and that was a heck of a ride. I can't imagine how a quake 1000 times as strong would leave a single person alive or a single building standing. theres got to be more to that "1000 times stronger" then they are saying because that WOULD be end times. I imagine 5 times as strong as what we had in '94 would have left L.A. in total ruins. Maybe 10 times. But 1000?! I don't see that leaving anything but rubble and all dead. I must be missing something in the translation.

This is heart breaking to see all of this destruction. It makes me wonder what is next. I live near volcanoes in that ring of fire.

This is a very said day for Japan indeed and my heart and prayers go out to them all.:y1:

I was watching Sky News this morning and they showed why it was not a total destruction of all buildings. Apparently they have spend plenty on designing building that can withstand these types of quakes. If it were in another country it would have most probably flattened every building standing that does not have this advanced technology

Makes you grateful for where you live doesn't it!
I was stunned by the images I was seeing on TV. It's hard to imagine such utter devestation.
My nephew and his wife live in Tokyo and are OK. They had to walk 16 kilometers to get home as the commuter trains were not running - but at least they got home and their home was fine except for minor damage.
A Japanese family lived next door to me for many years while members of the family attended universities. We became good friends, but the day came when they had to go home to Japan.
I have sent emails, but haven't received a reply.

My god ! And 8 is bigger than anything I've felt in Ca, and i've felt a lot of quakes in my almost 60 years here.
I work near hollywood blvd, and if you've ever been there you know there are a lot of nut cases walking around, many holding signs telling you of govt conspiracies or how god loves you etc etc. Whats kinda spooky is lately there were a few that were walking around with sandwich board type signs telling how on a certain date right around now it will be end times according to some reference in the bible ! I would walk by them and just laugh inside. Gotta wonder tho after this. Lets hope this isn't just the start of something bigger !

I know Carl. I was just replying to Dave when he said they just got hit by a 8 aftershock. Just that aftershock is stronger than the strongest one we've ever felt here, at least since i've been alive.
