Well.....it's been 20 years since I got my first motorcycle drivers licence in 34 years :y15:
Last evening I realized that it has been 20 years since I was issued my motorcycle drivers licence.
I can hardly believe that 20 years went by that fast.
This all started on a Friday afternoon in January 1992.
One of the guys I worked with bought a bike the year before and was urging me to get one too. I had no interest in bikes at all and could not be persuaded.
On that fateful afternoon he mentioned that he was going over to the Honda dealer Saturday morning to pick up some things and that he would pick me up just to come along for the ride.
When we walked into the dealership I couldn't believe my eyes at the motorcycles that were now available; the chrome; the paint; the plastic!! It was almost more than I could handle!!
All through those 34 years I wasn't the least bit interested in bikes, and even though I saw them in the street, I didn't give them a second look. I didn't even know that the British motorcycle industry had collapsed or that the Japanese had nearly cornered the market.
The dealer sold all the Japanese bikes, plus Harley-Davidson, BMW and Ducati. I was agog at the modern technology and the advancements since I had a bike in 1958.
We went back several more times over the next few months and I got to know the salesman quite well. By April I owned a brand new Honda Motorcycle. My friend from work drove it home for me.
I promised my wife I would take the riders course, but the course didn't start until the first week of May. I know she didn't think much of me getting a bike, but didn't say anything - although probably feared that she would be a widow in short order.
My shiny new bike sat in my garage for nearly six weeks until I was legal.
Successful students are issued their licence by the course instructors and I was issued mine on 19 May 1992 - 20 years ago last Saturday.
It's been a wonderful ride since then.

Congratulations on the 20 year mark.

I have to say though that here in Pennsylvania, your motorcycle license from 1958 would have still been valid. It's merely an "endorsement" on your driver's license saying what classes of motor vehicles you have been qualified to drive. On mine, the class "M" means motorcycle since I passed my motorcycle test when I was 16 and it's been there ever since.

The first drivers licence I had was for "motorcycle only." When I passed the automobile test it was upgraded to include both.
Over the years the bike endorsement was dropped off (input error?) as DMV went through periodical changes in their systems. I wasn't into bikes so I didn't care. I never expected to ride a bike again. Famous last words :y2:
It was just as well as the motorcycle course taught me a lot and was well worth the time to take it.
I was 55 years-old at the time and looked like "the old guy" among the teenagers :y2:

Same here. They even transferred my Illinois endorsement down here when I moved to Florida.
