The posts on when you wake up and power outage got me thinking.
When I get up duing the night or even at my normal wake up time (5-5:30am), I am often amazed at all the light in the house.
You've got the bedroom clock, the TV box clock in the bedroom, the TV box clock in the living room, the coffee pot clock, the microwave clock, the stove clock, the radio clock, and the glowing night light.
Is it me or do others not live in the dark anymore?

Well I can move around the house without the aid on any other lighting and just the light that comes from outside sources. It is only when we have a power outage that I realize just how dark it is outside and in :y2:

Same here. Our street is well lit so there is plenty of outside light coming in. Throughout the house there are many "eyes" in the dark from various sources as was mentioned. I also run security lights outside so I'm never in the dark - except when there is no power and then I realize how dark it really is :y2:

It is dark in my bedroom, the only light is the dim indicator lights from the alarm panel by the door. The windows are covered with foil for when I'm working nights to block out the sunlight.

There is plenty of ambient light in the city at night. Now when I am on the ranch, it is dark.
When we spend time at the lakeside cottage it's really dark there when we turn the lights out just like at your ranch.
The area is heavily forested too so it's really, really dark at night when there is no moon.

We have a streetlight on our front corner boundary which throws just enough lite through the curtains for me to make my necessary excursions without having to turn on any lights.
Re the leds around the place,if I poke my nose into my livingroom, its like a cityscape.I like my gadgets. :y2:

A moonless cloudy night is really dark on the ranch. I like being away from all of the city lights.
